Dorothy Gill Barnes

Dorothy Gill Barnes (b. 1927) is a sculptor who works in wood. Using wood, bark, branches and roots, she weaves sculptural vessels, often basketlike, that incorporate the unique characteristics in the wood.

She was born in Iowa and currently lives in Ohio. She received a B.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Her work can be found in the collection of the Museum of Arts and Design and the Arkansas Arts Center.
