Kate Lindsay
Kate Lindsay, originally from Portland, OR, is a studio jewelry and metalsmith currently working in Los Angeles. She studied with the late master goldsmith, Clemente Urrutia, who taught her, among other skills, the importance of tool making. She also credits her late father, CJ Lindsay, who in his tool and die shop introduced her to the joys of becoming a “maker.”
After forays in costume, sculpture and painting, Lindsay feels that her greatest passion is creating at the jewelers bench where she is challenged and inspired. Made from precious as well as non-precious, ethically sourced materials, she creates one-of-a-kind pieces that evoke elements of timelessness and modernism.
Working in this medium expresses my personal journey through this life. When I allow the process to guide me to the final outcome, the symbols and meanings become evident. I just need to step back, be patient and listen.
Lindsay has a BFA in painting and design from Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design. Her jewelry has been featured in Schiffer Publishing Art Jewelry Today. Her work was selected for the Craft Forms 2015-2016 exhibition and she also won a Gemmy in the 2015 International Design Awards competition. Lindsay’s work has been seen on film, television, and in private collections.
