The Haas Brothers
The Haas Brothers are an artist duo composed of twin brothers Simon and Nikolai Haas (b. 1984) who create eccentric furniture and sculptures. Exploring the aesthetics of elements such as nature, sexuality, science fiction, and color theory, the Haas Brothers have produced unconventional works, often in the forms of imaginative creatures, depicting humor, playfulness, and whimsicality. Their works are composed of different materials including brass, porcelain, fur, resins, and polyurethane, which contribute to their creativity and curiosity.
Born in Santa Monica, CA, Simon and Nikolai grew up in a creative household with their mother who was an opera singer, their father who was a sculptor, and their older brother who is an actor. Simon Haas attended the Rhode Island School of Design (2008), where he studied painting while Nikolai toured with his band RRIICCEE before going into construction management. By 2010, the brothers reconvened to found The Haas Brothers and work on furniture design that merges the components of art, design, fashion, film and music. Since its establishment, The Haas Brothers’ works have risen to fame due to their famous clientele and collaborations with other well known design companies like L’OBJET. The Haas Brothers currently work out of their studio in Los Angeles.
The Haas Brothers have been the recipients of various honors including the MAD Ball Visionaries! Award (2019), the Arison Alumni Award and Arison Award (2019), and have been featured in the publications of Manhattan Magazine, Vogue Italia, American Craft, and more.
