Tom Herman
Tom Herman is a jeweler with extraordinary talents who has mastered and personalized the most spectacular jewelry techniques such as lapidary, enameling, repoussé, carving, chasing, saw piercing, and all manner of jewelry construction. Tom has been influenced by many jewelers and designers in his quest to understand and master classic jewelry techniques.
He grew up in rural Minnesota where he suffered a farm accident that cost him three fingers, an event that later inspired the name for the jewelry company he founded in 1982: Seven Fingers Jewelry.
He mentions a favorite quote written about renowned glass artist and jewelry designer Rene Lalique, which seems to relate to his own philosophy and practice: “Without the benefit of schooling or an artistic education, he (Lalique) had the firm conviction that any work undertaken would be successfully concluded provided one was ruled by passion, guided by determination and sustained by perseverance.”
