Jack Larsen to Be Profiled on PBS This Week

The PBS series “Craft in America” will profile Jack Lenor Larsen in a show to air Friday at 10 p.m. on WNET, Channel 13. The segment on Mr. Larsen, who is a fabric designer and the owner and founder of the home and sculpture gardens at the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, will emphasize his achievements in fiber arts.

The producers describe Mr. Larsen additionally as a scholar, world traveler, collector, and mentor to weavers such as Kay Sekimachi and Krista Stack. The show will also look at the role of Black Mountain College in North Carolina in influencing the importance of craft and design in 20th-century art history.

Inextricably tied to midcentury design and beyond, Mr. Larsen was the founder of the Larsen Design Studio and companies devoted to fabric, carpet, and furniture bearing his name. His clients included titans of industry and celebrities, and numerous museums have his designs in their collections.

According to the producers, the show will air on WLIW, Channel 21, at a later date and will also be available on the “Craft in America” website beginning on Saturday. An exhibition based on the work of the artists featured in the show will open on March 2 at the Craft in America Center in Los Angeles.
