Concert: The Mainstream Jazz Ensemble Nov 9, 7pm
The Mainstream Jazz Ensemble
This trio is composed of three jazz musicians who have remarkably similar backgrounds. All have been professional jazz performers, starting in the formative years of bebop in the 1950’s. They grew up in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Connecticut, all three have the same sensibility about what constitutes the mainstream modern jazz genre. They also share the creative concepts that make up the foundation of jazz improvisation, and all three experience the non-verbal communication that leads to the coherence of a jazz ensemble.
To be able to create art, the artist must have the craft of his medium internalized so that the vocabulary for the creation of his/her art is automatic. Thus, one can focus on the art without being aware of the tools being used. –Steve Berens
