Fiber artist Joy Stocksdale creates vibrant, filmy wall hangings that mine nature for its forms. As a result of studies at Goldsmith’s College, University of London in 1979, Joy Stocksdale developed polychromatic screen printing. This method combines both painting and printing. It allows the same flexibility and spontaneity as painting on paper or fabric, with the added result of more than one print. Since the discovery of the technique, polychromatic printing has continued to be her main focus, capturing her imagination with a great range of approaches. She is the author of an instructional book on her process, Polychromatic Screen Printing. From an early age, crafts were a part of her daily life and had a huge impact on finding a life direction at a young age. For over forty years her silk garments, hangings, and quilts have been exhibited throughout the US. She will describe steps leading to the discovery of the printing process, approaches to designing, integrating textiles in daily life, and show images of her work. Actual examples of artwork will illustrate many approaches to the printing process.
