One by One Exhibition (March 3 – May 14, 2011)
A diverse art form, book arts are not easily defined and contain a variety of traditions, techniques, and technologies. With a history that spans the illuminated books of William Blake, the avant-garde of the early 20th century, and contemporary works, the book arts are an agile medium, reflecting the culture of the times. The Craft in America Center will feature works from book artists including, Carolee Campbell, Rebecca Chamlee, Julie Chen, Johanna Drucker, Barbara Maloutas, Kitty Maryatt, Katherine Ng, Harry Reese and Sandra Reese. These artists showcase the art form in all its diversity, from fine press books to flag books. Their three-dimensional pieces blend text, image and format, and engage with themes as diverse as the environment, family legacy, and play.
Julie Chen is featured in the PROCESS episode.
