Thomas Mann on Storm Cycle: Wall Street
Storm Cycle: Wall Street is part of sculptor and jeweler Thomas Mann’s “Storm Cycle: An Artist’s Response to Hurricane Katrina” series. He tells the story behind this piece about an abandoned pet.
Feeling an emotional urgency to understand and respond to the devastation in his hometown, Mann created a series of wall panels and jewelry pieces to document his beloved city after Hurricane Katrina. Each panel tells a different story referencing shattered walls, abandoned pets, rescue boats landing on roofs and ghostly presences. He spent weeks traversing the city, taking photographs and gathering items he then used to create the series.
